Perth Wildcats rookie Wani Swaka Lo Buluk has been ruled out for three to four months after injuring his right ankle at practice on Thursday. Scans have revealed a torn syndesmosis, and he will require surgery to repair the injury.
After signing his first professional contract in July, the 18-year-old has since impressed coaches with his performances on the pre-season practice courts. Given Swaka Lo Buluk’s age, Wildcats medical staff will take a conservative approach to his rehabilitation and aim to have him return to the court mid-season
Speaking at training today Clint Steindl said he was devastated about his injury.
“It’s not to many positives out of it really. Other than he’s really young and he’s got such a high ceiling and such a big upside for someone 18 years old, to have an injury like that in your first season, it’s not what you want, you feel for the guy because he’s been showing a lot in 4 weeks and he’s been really good. It’s really tough and to see it happen to a guy like Wani it’s not good because he’s such a great guy, he’s all about the right stuff at this club, it’s not going to end his career or season he’s just got to get it right and he’s going to have the support of his team mates and coaches and his going to come back pretty good.”
