“This was my first time traveling to that part of the world, and although I had heard about the poverty and seen it on media coverage, the stark reality of it did not really hit me until I arrived. Yet these patients, coming from a background of suffering and poverty, still have such immense joy and appreciation for life. It is a truly humbling experience.

It was incredible meeting people from around the world who have the same values and yearning to serve the world’s poor and marginalised. Together, 450 crew from 40 nations can bring hope and healing to the patients of the Africa Mercy.” – Leonard Ong

Mercy Ships is a global charity that has operated hospital ships in developing nations since 1978, bringing hope and healing to the forgotten poor by mobilising people and resources worldwide, serving all people without regard for race, gender or religion.

Listen to Lenny’s story as he prepares to join the Africa Mercy again this August.
