Transitioning to childcare can be a difficult period for parents and their little ones.
So Andrea Fallon, from Wholehearted Family Health, joined Mike to share a few tips ease the transition. Consider their stage of development before putting them into childcare. Separation anxiety peaks at around 7-10 months then 18-24 months. Andrea suggests avoiding those time frames can make the transition easier.
Prepare your child ahead of time and avoid big life changes like moving house. Try not to change the way you respond to help them get used to you not being there. Instead focus on getting them to trust their new caregiver. “If you’re child feels safe and calm with a different caregiver they are much more likely to accept a different way of doing things.”
Children find safety in routines and rituals. So consistently doing an activity before dropping them off like playing a game.
