The premier of ‘The Third Son’ is hitting screens on the 20th November, at Woodvale Baptist Church. The Third Son

Director Jas Lyn and Obang Girma joined Bec and Jeziel to tell us more about this documentary. ‘The Third Son’ tells the story of Obang Girma who was a refugee in Kenya for 11 years.  Jas Met Obang at Perth Bible College, where she had the opportunity to go on a missions trip to Kenya. They also visited the refugee camp where Obang lives. “We got to experience Obang, his people and ultimately the journey of him going back to meet his mother after 15 years of not seeing her.”

The film is an overview of Obang’s life and shows what God is doing in the lives of his children. “Using Obang’s story you see someone who comes from little and God can still use and redeem your story.”

At 19 years old, Obang fled his home country Ethiopia. Leaving his mother and siblings behind, he went to Kenya where he was a refugee for 11 years. “It was a scary moment for me because I was looking for a better life.” Obang hopes that viewers will understand how God protects his people. “It will help people not from refugee backgrounds to see what is happening out there. You can see how we are blessed here in Australia.
