Steve McAlpine, from North Coast Church was at 98five on day one!
He was there when we first went to air in 1988. As his first job after graduating it took him time to get used to being an announcer. “The first time that button went on an invisible hand grabbed my throat so I sounded like Kermit the frog! Reading the news from Sesame Street.” But he believes 98five is more important now more than ever.
“People thought, will radio last? But it has. Because the immediacy of radio gets into people’s community. If they don’t have a sense of community it becomes their community. I think its a good link point for people.”
