Kath Healy from Nature Play WA joined Kirste and Dan to talk about their newest resource Social Stories.

They have partnered with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions to help connect Aussie kids to the outdoors. Over the next 3 years, they will be highlighting one park each month. As well as creating resources like ‘Social Stories’ that support families to get out into nature.

Social Stories help explain social situations to children and adults with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, developmental delays and learning challenges. It prepares anyone with sensory issues for what they might smell, hear or see. “It’s about helping families of all abilities just get out and enjoy the beautiful outdoors.” You can download the social story for John Forrest National Park here! They also have Social Stories for Yanchep National Park and Kent Street Weir.
