Simon Creek, from HHG Legal Group, joined Mike to talk about this topic. Voluntary Assisted Dying became accessible to eligible Western Australians in July. This legislation allows people to request access to assisted dying through a medical practitioner.

A person must make the request for themselves and can change their mind at any time. Two medical practitioners must individually assess the request. Patients must be informed of other treatment options as well as the VAD process.

“You know I share the Christian faith. I too believe that God is ultimately the one in charge of life and death. Not withstanding that (and I don’t think it necessarily conflicts), but I still have a problem imposing my beliefs on others and I would struggle with that if they were in absolute agonising pain.”
