WA Education Minister Sue Ellery this morning advised against kids going on strike this Friday to support the Strike 4 Climate Australia.

Kirste and Morro opened up the discussion on Brekky, drawing a polarizing response from everyone.

Morro himself believes that a strike like this is basically students shooting themselves in the foot, and that there are better ways to do it.

His suggestion was every student in Australia should write a letter to Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

However, Kirste was more sympathetic to the plight of students, acknowledging that if these extreme measures is what it takes for climate change to be taken seriously, then go for it.

Among the response from listeners was one from recent high-school graduate, Megan:

“I’m a Gen Z and in all honesty I’m scared for what the future brings. The Government seems to never be in the news for good reasons, and for the most part it comes back to money (which is wildly wrong). I agree with Morro, kids should be educated but Kirste is right also; an influx of letters will probably not do anything as its not public. So please suggest what my peers and I can do so our future doesn’t look like a dystopian teen novel.”

The core of Megan’s message is simple: she wants to live happily and have a family, without having to fend off raiders driving turbo charged rat-rods in some Mad Max-esque future where water is the only currency.

Okay, maybe I went too far there with my rant…

But you can listen to the full discussion below, which regardless of where your opinion lies, having a safe space to foster conversations like this is how a solution will come about.
