Shannon’s guide to text abbreviations

Shannon is having some trouble understanding her teenage son’s vocabulary. “It starts off when they are babies and you have no idea what they are talking about. Then they go through that phase where they don’t shut up. Then they go through that phase where you completely understand them. Then you go back to the phase where they talk to you in a language you don’t understand.”

She was also confused when one of the girls she works with texted ily. “I’m like ily? I sat with it for a little while and I worked out that was a three-letter acronym for I love you.” So she asked the family to teach her some texting acronyms.

  • DYKTMM: Do you know the muffin man
  • IRL: In real life
  • BTW: By the way
  • IDK: I don’t know
  • IDC: I don’t care
  • LMK: Let me know
  • Will Tf: Will transfer
  • TY: Thank you
  • WYD: What are you doing
  • TBH: To be honest
  • BRB: Be right back
