It wasn’t that long ago when Shannon was teaching her son how to use the toilet. But over 10 years later, she realised showing him how to wipe his bum is nothing compared to teaching him how to drive.
So this morning she joined Kirste and Dan to ask the family for advice. Jordan learnt to drive not long ago and suggested that Shannon outsource her parenting. “Just go straight to the driving school.” While Teagan reminded her to just hold on for dear life. “When I was teaching my son I would just stealthily reach my hand up when we went to a round a corner or round about.” Colleen told Shannon that it is important to help them grow confidence. When she was dating her husband he taught her how to drive. For her first lesson, he took her to a graveyard! “He said your first driving lesson will be here because at least you won’t kill anyone here.“
Every week Shannon shares her stories like this about her latest adventures in parenting. Listeners love to hear her authentic and relatable stories. “Obviously I like to bring a bit of humour and realness but something I value is authenticity. We are in a world now where there are a lot of filters on everything. A lot of people are portraying something they are not and I just don’t want to do that. God wants us to feel a part of a community. So when I can be authentic in my stories and be vulnerable, if that helps us feel more together then that is really valuable.”
We’ve Seen and Heard many stories of how God, through 98five, has spoken into people’s lives when they needed it most. To give them hope to carry on when they didn’t feel they could. This June we invite you to partner with 98five to share hope for all to see and hear!
