Shalom House Open Day coming soon

Reading Time: 3 minutes

If you’re wondering what goes on at Shalom House then put the Perth’s rehabilitation centre’s Friday 24 November Open Day in your calendar.

It will be a great chance to check out what they do on a day-to-day basis and ask any questions you have regarding their work in helping men restore their lives and breaking through the bondage of addiction.

The Open Day will run from 8,50am to noon at the facility located in the Swan Valley region.

Email milena@shalomhouse.com.au for more information.

Shalom House founder and CEO Peter Lyndon-James joined Mike in the Studio to chat about the upcoming events/seminars he will be running, and also answer the following questions from listeners.

My 18-year-old son has a meth addiction and goes on and off the drug. He has been smoking cigarettes and pot since Year 8 or 9 and has been socialising with the ‘wrong kids’. I’ve kicked him out of home and he keeps coming back promising he is OK and he never is. I have taken him to see the GP and accessed medication to help reduce his withdrawal and he is compliant with this for a few days and then he is back with the same people and using again, he is also lying about everything. I am a psychiatric nurse and see this everyday in my job and I know there is nothing out there that will save him except going into Shalom, however when it is your child you are totally helpless.

I am currently studying my diploma in counseling. Would you have any use for volunteers still studying?

How big of a part does counseling play in rehabilitation at Shalom House?

Why do you ask the guys at Shalom to stop smoking? I can imagine it would be hard giving it up in addition to multiple other addictions. From my experience with my husband going to rehab previously for alcohol addiction, no one was asked to stop smoking. Do you find it makes it harder for men to stay or complete the program if they quit smoking too? I think if I could convince my husband to go to Shalom it would be great, but he’d resist the not smoking thing.
