To celebrate Science Week, Bec and Jeziel are conducting experiments with biomedical scientist Dr Rina!

Yesterday they wanted to learn about the speed of the average sneeze and how far boogers can travel. “It’s not just germs that spread out, there is a lot of mucus that goes with it…You secrete mucus and the germs take a ride on the mucus” You can try this experiment out for yourself, all you need is some nerf guns, a target and slime. Dunk the bullet in the slime and launch it at the target.

The average speed of one of these nerf guns travels at about 30-40km/h. They’ve actually done scientific research on how fast a sneeze travels. They’ve recorded about 100 miles per hour so faster than the speed limit on a freeway.”

So today we’ve learnt to catch our coughs and sneezes. Are you looking forward to the rest of science week? Let us know your thoughts by texting or messaging us on socials. Listen to the full chat below!
