Round 21 preview: Richmond VS West Coast Eagles

This Sunday is set to be a mouth-watering clash between Richmond and West Coast Eagles at the MCG. It’s a big game that will determine where the Eagles finish on the ladder at seasons end. Either having to travel to Brisbane for the first week of finals or hosting a final.

The West Coast Eagles will embrace going to the MCG to play one of the best teams in the competition. West Coast’s top-two fate remains in their own hands. Despite slipping to the third spot after being pushed to the brink by Adelaide on Sunday. The Eagles weren’t able to boost their percentage but did enough to join Geelong and Brisbane on 15 wins with the 10-point victory, 13.12 90 to 12.8 80 at Optus Stadium.

Coach Adam Simpson said his team had emerged injury-free ahead of the blockbuster with Richmond, who have won seven games in a row.

“It’s an exciting round. I can’t wait. I think everyone involved in AFL can’t wait for next week,” Simpson said.

“It’s probably the biggest test in the AFL – Richmond at the MCG.”

There is going to be some great individual matchups all over the ground with Elliot Yeo vs Dustin Martin, Mark Hutchings to tag either Trent Cotchin or Dion Prestia. Arguably in career-best form, Jack Darling and Josh Kennedy will have their hands full with Davis Astbury and Dylan Grimes, and Tom Barrass and Jeremy McGovern will go head to head with Tom Lynch and Jack Riewoldt. It will be the first time that Willi Rioli will play against his cousin Daniel Rioli.
