Rodney Olsen, Partnership manager with Compassion, joined Kirste and Dan to tell us about Ride for Compassion.
Compassion is an organisation that works in over 25 countries around the world to release children from poverty. “We believe there is a hope that stretches into eternity and we want to reach out providing everything that a child needs to know that poverty does not define them. Because poverty shouts at them saying: ‘everything around you is broken, everything around you is rubbish and you are too.’ Yet these are children created in the image of God and we need to say that is not the case for you.”
What is Ride for Compassion?
Ride for Compassion is an opportunity for us to help these vulnerable children living in poverty. Cyclists and support crews will take to the road to help raise money from September 17th to October 19th. This Saturday, they embark on their 4,200 kilometres starting at Cottesloe beach and finishing in Newcastle. They are aiming to raise $1,000,000 for children living in poverty and those affected by the global food crisis. “They say 276 million people are now experiencing severe food insecurity and that means that person hasn’t eaten for a day or more so we need to act quickly.”
You are invited to the official launch of Ride for Compassion: Coast to Coast, hosted by 98five’s Kirste and Dan from Brekky!
The event will be held on September 17th, at Cottesloe Beach on the grassed area opposite Car Park 2, Marine Parade, just north of Napier Street, WA. There will be a short ceremony before the team leaves, including the riders dipping their wheels into the Indian Ocean.
