Postcard from the Philippines 6: meeting Charity

Six year old Charity lives with her mother Rosemarie, father Esteban, younger sibling and cousin in a home no greater than 3m2.  The community is set up alongside a water canal polluted with open sewerage which becomes increasingly hazardous when it floods. The water becomes as high as their home (I couldn’t actually stand up in their house) forcing the family to escape to an upper room.

Despite these conditions Charity and Rosemarie have such inspiring hope for their future and because of Charity’s Compassion sponsor she dreams of becoming a flight attendant one day.

Charity took half a day off school to make sure she was home and ready to greet us.
