A Perth online virtual marketplace has been launched in response to the Covid-19 events shutdown and retail drop-off to help Perth and WA small businesses. The marketplace has been established as a lifeline to allow local businesses to still connect with the community and their customers.
Established by Perth online guide Perth Happenings in response to local business demand. The online market features only Perth and WA owned and operated vendors.
“We had 6000 customers visit the site on launch day last week. It’s been really well received with a flood of local vendors signing up. The general response from businesses is that this is giving them hope,” says creator Pieta Sharpe.
Local vendors who apply are able to list as many products as they like across the wide range of categories. Including Health and Beauty, Fashion, Food, Home and Garden, Kids and Toys, Party and Gifts, Local Services and Pets. Sellers only have to pay a once-off $39 admin fee and they receive 100% of the profits. The product range currently online is vast including services. Such as online courses and mechanics to local artisans work, fashion, flowers, fresh cakes, beauty products and even a local butcher.
To keep it fair to all the businesses all the items on the marketplace homepage are on a random rotation, so each time the customer refreshes their browser, or comes to shop again, there will be something new and different.
“If you have to buy a birthday present, or need something for the home, we urge you to please browse, shop, support these local Perth businesses where you can still shop local without stepping out of the house,” says Pieta.
