A Perth family featured on Today Tonight has been described as a “family of six with room in their hearts for many more”.

And that’s because Rick and Louise Pekan have fostered 33 children in six years including newborn babies and every child has found a place in a frame in their home as well.

“We might not be able to change the whole world but we can certainly change the world for a child,” Louise said.

“Our community and our kids are all of our responsibility.”

There story is certainly inspiring not only for our city but for all families across Australia.

There is currently a record number of children in care — more than 4500 in WA and 45,000 nationally — which means there’s a desperate need for more carers like the Pekan family.

Rick Pekan is Bible Society‘s Church and Community Relations Coordinator (Perth).
