“Oscar Allen is going alright” – Morro, 2019.
The fresh West Coast Eagles forward, Oscar Allen, has scored 4 goals in 3 games. He’s is gearing up for this weekend’s big derby – the first derby he’ll ever play! As one of the latest recruits, we had to get him on the blower so he could answer a bunch of the Family’s questions so we could get to know him.
Oscar Allen joins Morro & Corey on The Brekky Show.
Your first game at the MCG, how was that?
I tried to think of it just like any other game, but if I said I did that, I’d be lying. I got pretty nervouse before the game, but as soon as it started that faded away. I’m really looking forward to the derby though. I love playing at Optus Stadium and arguably we have the best fan base in the game.
Do you have a pre-game ritual?
I try to keep my pre game ritual pretty loose. With travelling and everything you can’t always control how you want it to go. But one thing I’ve stuck to, is a little ritual a few of the boys do together. The day before a game, so today, about 20 of us go to a cafe in Scarborough and have a club chicken sandwich. If you’re in Scabs today between 11 am and 3 pm you’l probably see a bunch of the boys slamming chicken sangas.
Love your clunking Oscar, elite mits! Just wondering what’s the origin of your sideways fist clench celebration and how long have you been doing it?
The celebration was born at the Gabba, round 1 I kicked a goal and thought it was alright so I gave it a bit of elebration. I didn’t realise I hadn’t kept my fist clenched and pumped with my arm straight and it went a bit horizontal and it’s just carried on from there. I get pretty excited still and happy and start yelling on the ground and everyone gets around me so. It seems to be working at the moment so I might have to stick with it.
I’m a teacher and when we learnt about dinosaurs earlier this year. One of the kids googled clunk-o-saur-ous and you came up, is that your official name at the club?
Nah I don’t have that name at the club, I might have to get some of the boys in their pushing that for me. But I think Gov (Jeremy McGovern) will get that nick name before me.
You’re a Hillary’s boy. How flat were you when they closed the water slides up there?!
It’s fithly, absolutely! Those waterslides were my go-to as a kid. From about the age of 10 to 16. It was pretty iconic for a lot of people up north. I just hope they replace it with something good and don’t just leave it empty. The dark slide was pretty good, but I loved the racing one where you could race down against one of your mates.
