Blogger, writer, pastor, backyard philosopher, it’s Andrew Hamilton! From Quinns Baptist Church, Andrew Hamilton regularly drops into The Breakfast Show to share a thought or story he’s been reflecting on.
So what’s Andrew “Hammo” Hamilton thinking about today? Hamburgers.
Two years ago, Hammo took his son to a small little island in The Philippines for a surfing trip. It was a tiny town, Burgos, in which only about 300 people lived. One night, they stayed out too late and missed the cut off for dinner at their accommodation. There was only one other place open Burgos Burgers, so they had to give it a try. They rolled into the burger bar, which turned out to be someone’s house, and asked for a menu. The lady operating the place replied, “I do burger.” The boys asked “what kind of burger?” and she again replied, “I do burger”. So with no other options, they ordered one each, and you know what, it was amazing. This lady did “burger” really well.
“So there we were, in the middle of nowhere, she only did one thing but she did it really well, and that got me thinking…” said Hammo. “This morning, the thought I want to put to you is, if you could only give your life to one thing, what would it be?”
What’s the one thing you feel like God has put you on this Earth to do?
Life is so busy, we can spread ourselves a bit too thin, but Hammo feels like we were each put here to do one primary thing.
“Back in 1996, I was in a job interview and they asked me what I felt my calling was, I think it’s to communicate the gospel to Australians, in a way that they can understand. That’s my thing that gets me out of bed in the morning.”
