The NSW government are considering an overhaul of the education system’s outdated school times.

This trial aims to help families function better by offering more flexibility, boosting productivity and reducing traffic congestion. Compared to the traditional 9 am-3 pm school hours students will have a staggered start. One group will attend from 7 am-1 pm and the second group from 11 am-5 pm. So Kirste and Dan wanted to ask the family their thoughts.

As a mum, Tanya thinks it is a wonderful idea. Her youngest child enjoys waking up early and going to school. While her oldest likes to sleep in later. As a teacher, she could spend more time with each group of students. “After-school activities would be a bit more difficult.”

Jeremy is concerned about the teachers. “How long would teachers have to work, 7 am to 5 pm is a solid day.”

Malcolm would be happy with less traffic. “That would work for the parking at my kid’s school. 850 parents trying to drop off their kids in a car park that can hold 50 cars.”
