Recruiting people is only half the job. Keeping them engaging them and getting them to perform is the bigger project.”

Creating a positive and engaging environment for your employees can lead to improved performance, employment retention and longevity. Although salary may seem like the most important factor, almost 70% of people leave their job because of a negative work environment. But the good news is that it’s not that hard to engage your staff with these 6 engagement factors: Recognition, Reward, Voice, Choice, Learning and Legacy.

It’s important to not only focus on just monetary rewards. “We have a client who organises a masseuse to come in every two weeks to his factory.  Everyone gets a massage for their hard work… He has not lost a single employee in the last 12 months“.

Recognition is one of the most effective factors but the least expensive. Recognition should be “Authentic, specific and frequent.” Giving good or bad feedback to your employees will keep them engaged and get them to perform better.
