Say goodbye to plastic and foil wrappers because Nestle has cracked the formula for biodegradable paper wrappers! In a “world-first” Nestle will relaunch their Yes! bars wrapped in a paper casing, that will break down in 6 months.

What’s even better than that? The wrappers are made from recycled paper too!

“Up until now, high-speed production of shelf-stable snacks was only achieved using plastic films and laminates. Now paper can be used at large scale. While guaranteeing product quality and freshness over the entire shelf life” says Nestle.

This is one of the first major steps Nestle have taken towards their goal of making all it’s packaging recyclable and reusable by 2025. The company has chosen not to patent this biodegradable wrapping in the hopes that other food production companies will take up this eco-friendly process.

On top of this, they announced in April that they had managed to certify 3/4 of their supply chain as deforestation-free ahead of their deadline for being entirely deforestation-free before 2020.

Unfortunately these Yes! bars and their wrappers are not currently available in Australia. Nestle say they will eventually bring them worldwide, but hopefully, our own Aussie companies will follow in their footsteps.
