Shannon joins The Brekky Show every Wednesday morning as our resident Mum Lyfe correspondent! She’s here to share the good, the bad and the ugly as she parents her 3 sons with her hubby Dave.
“My house was like Survivor these school holidays,” said Shannon. “You reckon the Survivor cast is out in the jungle? Put some cameras in my house and you’ll see something tribal.”
But in December last year, Shannon was prepared. She launched into the school holiday with two strategies.
Firstly, she signed up the kids for VacSwim.
Now this was a genius ploy for many reasons. It’s so cheap because it’s a government initiative – it’s like a $1.50 a lesson but here’s the kicker … she enrolled them in lessons at Leighton beach. This means, every day for two weeks, while her boys were with their instructors, Shannon got 45 minutes of alone time on the beach. PLUS they’re exhausted after their lessons so they’re not hyper all day and they sleep great at night. PLUS, PLUS of course, they get lots of exercise and can now swim really well. It’s a win-win-win situation.
Secondly, she bought something.
Shannon bought a beach trolley. You’ve probably seen these popping up more frequently at beaches and parks because they’re a lifesaver according to Shannon. “Everyone throws their stuff in it, no one has to carry anything. My boys even fight over who gets to pull it, and I get to hang back and just hold onto my coffee.”
So there you go family, next time you’re staring down the barrel of a 6 week school holiday, employ Shannon’s two strategies and you’ll be able to keep a lid on the chaos that ensues!
