Every Wednesday Bec and Jeziel ask local leaders and pastors to share some midweek motivation. This week Shaphan Williams, Pastor of Oceans Church, had Melbourne on his mind.
Melbourne has been in and out of lockdown for months. They lost their Grand Final and was hit by a 5.9 magnitude earthquake. “If Melbourne was a person, I think they would be going ‘everything is going against me’.” We all have stages in our lives where we feel like nothing is going right. Jacob felt the same when he was trying to survive a famine while losing his sons. Joseph was presumed dead, Simeon was in jail and his youngest son Benjamin was being taken to Egypt.
Their father Jacob said to them. “You have deprived me of my children. Joseph is no more and Simeon is no more, and now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is against me!” Genesis 42:36
Jacob felt abandoned by God and was losing hope. Rather than losing his son Benjamin, God was luring the family to a place of abundance. “God used Ben to get him to the land of Egypt where they had enough food.” The same thing can be happening in our lives. When we feel like everything is going wrong and God has forgotten about us. He is actually using is to lead us into a better place.
“The very things in our life that we think will break us, God will allow to actually make us stronger…Just remember when it looks like everything is going against you, God has got the big picture in mind. He’s working it all out for your good. So you can get strong enough to step into the good things he’s got for you. “
