Each week, Bec and Jeziel ask local leaders and pastors, to share an inspirational message. This week Pastor Mark Edwards from Inglewood Community Church shared the secret to being a good leader.
North Melbourne finished last this AFL season so Alastair Clarkson was appointed as the new coach. At a press conference, he said something that Pastor Mark found interesting. “He said I need to have some people around me that are going to protect me from myself.” This reminded him of Proverbs 11:14 which says, “For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.“
There is this aspect in leadership where we can’t see things about ourselves that others can see. “It reminded me that it is really good to have people in our lives that can tell us truth in love about ourselves and about things that we can’t see ourselves.” It can be easy to distance yourself from people who don’t share the same view as you. But it can be beneficial to keep them in your life because they might see something that you can’t
“It’s really good to have people around you, particularly if you are leading that can really help you with your own blind spots. Because we’ve all got them. But to be a good leader you need to listen to others, take it onboard put it through your own filter and just be the best that you can be.“
