Each week, Bec and Jeziel ask local leaders and pastors, to share an inspirational message. This week Pastor Josh Thomas, from Lesmurdie Baptist Church, encouraged us to stay focused.

Jacob and Esau were twin brothers who were very different. As the oldest son, Esau was the legal heir to the family birthright. He was also a skilful hunter and his father’s favourite. In contrast, Jacob preferred to stay at the camp. After a long day of hunting, Esau was starving. So he asked for some of the stew his brother was cooking. Jacob replied, “First sell me your birthright.” Esau agreed and swore an oath to Jacob. Once he had eaten and his stomach was full he realised what he had given up.

All of us have long-term goals whether that be at work, in relationships or for our own fulfilment. Don’t let small meaningless things get in the way of your objective. “Don’t throw away something of value that is going to be worth something in the future for something that is immediate. Don’t give up the ultimate for the immediate.
