Each week, Bec and Jeziel ask local leaders and pastors, to share an inspirational message. This week Pastor Brian Harris from Avenir Leadership shared how we should look at the big picture.
As King, Saul was responsible for the covenant between God and Israel. But King Saul was so blinded by jealousy that he failed to fulfil God’s plan and win the war. As the Jewish women were dancing in a victory parade, they sang: “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.” (1 Samuel 18:7, NIV) Saul went into a rage, disobeyed God and the Israelites were overrun in battle.
Sisters Mary and Martha opened their home to Jesus as he travelled with his disciples. Mary sat with Jesus and listened to his wisdom while Martha was busy cooking and cleaning. Martha became frustrated and complained to Jesus. “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” Jesus replied, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Martha had the opportunity to cook a meal for Jesus but was so overwhelmed by everything else she failed to recognise it.
In life, we can be so overwhelmed by things or blinded by jealousy that we fail to see goodness. “Little things creep in and we forget to see that God is good and there is a bigger picture that we should be holding onto.” Let us know by texting or messaging us on socials then listen to the full chat below!
