Each week, Bec and Jeziel ask local leaders and pastors to share an inspirational message. This week Derek Gerrard, from Local Community Church, shared his tips to build strong relationships.

The Bible says that, as Christians, we are known for our love for one another. John 13:35 says: “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Treating each other with kindness and respect is a representation of that love. Derek says, “So as Christians, I think we should be exceptional at doing relationships well. Always thinking about it and proving it, is a really good way to live out that biblical principle that Jesus taught us.”

  1. Treat each other with kindness: Relationships involve having difficult conversations. Instead of avoiding it, approach it with kindness.
  2. Forgiveness: Although we don’t mean to we can upset the people we care about. Forgive quickly and move past it.
  3. Make time for fun: Relationships are built around commonality and chemistry
  4. Put others first: Good relationships are defined by how you care for others
