The basketball season is nearly upon us and Perth fans have a brand new franchise to throw their support behind – The Perth Lynx.
Izzy Chilcott was signed by the newly formed Lynx in July along with team mates Carley Mijovic and Klara Wischer.
The guard was born in the New South Wales border town of Tweed Heads and started her basketball journey 30km up the road in the Gold Coast.
Chilcott in action for Hobart in the SEABL
As is per norm in basketball, Izzy headed to the United States and found a scholarship with the University of San Diego, where she spent 2 seasons before moving back to Australia suiting up for the Hobart Lady Chargers in the SEABL.
Izzy’s work ethic and versatility impressed Lynx head coach Andy Stewart who had no hesitation in signing her in the WNBL off season.
Izzy caught up with Christine ahead of her game against Sydney at the Bendat Basketball Centre on Saturday night.
“It’s been a bit of a long pre season, and we’re so sick of going against each other at training every day. The first game as the new look lynx is going to be really exciting and there’s a great atmosphere going around.” Said Chilcott.
With 24 games in the space of only 4 months the Lynx roster will be spending a vast amount of time in transit between Perth and the eastern states. Christine asked Izzy how she will pass the time during the flight.
“I’m terrible. I can only get through about 20 minutes of a movie and then fall asleep. I’m usually annoying my team mates sitting next to me, making them try to talk to me, so whoever’s sat next to me has drawn the short straw!”
Podcast: Izzy Chilcott with Christine on Drive
Izzy will be a regular guest with Christine each Thursday afternoon at 4:40pm on Drive. To seal the deal Christine taught her a secret handshake to use each week. It’s not so secret any more.
