We all love a good return. Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Masterchef last night: return of the legends. That’s right, the contestants were graced with the presence of three master chefs from seasons gone.

However, for one contestant, it was to be a blessing in disguise. Despite the return of adored alumni, Poh Ling Yeow, Callum Hann and Reynold Poernomo, the spectre of elimination still hung in the air. Our old masters weren’t just there as pretty faces either. The challenge was laid down to cook a dish that would fit in at any of their restaurants.

Three contestants had immunity pins, and the pressure was high to play them. Therese stayed strong, but Wynona and Elise took the safe option towards the end of the cooking time. When the final taste came, it was Minoli’s turn for heartbreak. Her sesame-crusted steak served with daikon, yuzu dressing, crispy enoki mushrooms and pickled radish was a good dish, but lacked the clarity and balance needed to work in the menu at Callum’s Eleven restaurant.

Minoli joined Kirste and Dan on Brekky this morning to discuss the night. Despite the disappointment, she LOVED her time on the show, and was nothing but smiles and laughs. She also teased a few very exciting upcoming projects. Let me just say, if you were blown away by Minoli’s multi-course Sri Lankan feast in the early round, keep your eyes on her socials!
