This week on Mum Life, Shannon joined Kirste and Dan to discuss Kids with Jobs.
Shannon’s oldest son, has become an “earning man” after he recently started working. However, as a child he believes he shouldn’t have to pay for certain things. “He’s giving me the old, I’m not paying for that. In his mind he has stuff that parents pay for, and stuff kids pay for. I pay for the dumb stuff and he pays for the fun stuff.” She wanted to ask the family when he should be expected to start paying for his own stuff.
Kirste, whose children share a similar mindset to Shannon’s, fully agreed that kids should pay for their own things when they start working. “If you want the extra special stuff you can pay for that. You’ve got more expendable money then we do.” Dan shared that when he was a kid he paid for his own necessities. “If it was a video game I bought the video game.”
