NAPLAN is starting next week so Craig Hunter, Deputy Principal of Rehoboth Christian College, joined Mike to discuss the questions and concerns about this standardised test
NAPLAN consists of 45-minute tests in writing, comprehension, numeracy and spelling for students in year 3, 5, 7 and 9. This gives the Australian Government insight into our progress compared to other countries. It can also help schools know if they falling behind and see any problems or trends in students. But many parents are concerned that this is adding unnecessary pressure on their child. Also that the tests reduce their children to a set of data that doesn’t recognise their other gifts. (kindness, creativity, sports, music or art.)
“(NAPLAN) is not designed for a whole term of prep and a whole lot of pressure, that’s actually not what the Government has designed it for. So if that’s happening I would actually push back against that school.”
