International father’s Mental Health Day

Postnatal depression is just as relevant for dads as it is for mums. However, men find it much harder to seek support for emotional problems and 43% of first-time dads believe postnatal depression and anxiety is a sign of weakness.

While 1 in 10 expecting or new dads experience perinatal anxiety or depression in Australia, over half do not seek support. As Monday was International Father’s mental Health day, we spoke to Amy Kelly, a clinical psychologist for The Centre of Perinatal Psychology, her tips on what to look out for and what to do if you recognise the symptoms in yourself or in another man you know.
