Hope In Unsettled Times

We are living in tumultuous times. People need hope more than ever.

Sally from Aging Gratefully joined Mike, to remind us that hope exists in the unseen. Hebrews 11:1 states: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

“We hope for what we cannot see… So even if we cannot imagine how something could possibly work out for the best, we must lean into our faith. We must raise our focus above circumstances and onto Jesus.”

We need hope most when times are troubled. This is also the time that our trust and faith can be most tested. We can also look at how we show up each day at the moment. There’s more than enough fear and destruction going on, don’t let’s add to it by our own behaviours. Let’s make a conscious and intentional effort to bring peace and patience and kindness into our daily living.

To finish off her time with us this week, Sally recited St Francis of Assisi’s Peace prayer.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

—St. Francis of Assisi
