Pastor Phil Ayres, from Kingdom City Church, joined Bec and Jeziel to encourage those experiencing a divorce. A lot of bible verses that address divorce can be hurtful or harmful.
“And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.” – Matthew 19:9 KNJV
But Pastor Phil reminded us that Jesus was speaking into a culture and context. “The bible is not a blank slate of decrees being declared. It’s always Christ coming into a broken world and addressing the issue in that moment.” Although Jesus presented that marriage is sacred, he also lifted up an adulterous woman with no judgement. “He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her.”
“I believe what is important is not the fact that we fall down. It’s the fact that we are prepared to stand up and the direction we face when we move forward. We have a sovereign will to either choose to respond to God in faith and live the life he called us to live. Or lose our way and get angry and bitter. Every time we stand up and say God I’m gonna trust you…We are living in the will of God and will be a blessing wherever we go.”
