A French scientist trolled Twitter after claiming a slice of chorizo was a distant star.
French Physicist Étienne Klein tweeted the photo and claimed it was taken by NASA’s James Webb telescope. “Photo of Proxima Centauri, the closest star to the Sun, located 4.2 light years from us. It was taken by the JWST. This level of detail… A new world is revealed day after day.”

The image went viral with over 15,000 likes but some didn’t fall for his prank. One user wrote “Stop lying to us! It’s a slice of chorizo!” He later clarified that the image is actually a sausage. “Well, when it’s time for the aperitif, cognitive biases seem to have a field day… Beware, then, of them. According to contemporary cosmology, no object belonging to Spanish charcuterie exists anywhere but on Earth.” He claimed it was a form of ‘amusement’ and turned the prank into a teachable moment. “Let us learn to be wary of arguments from authority.”
