Each week Kelley from the Foxglove Project, joins Mike to talk to everyday West Aussies who are making an impact in our community. This week they had a chat to Jennifer Quartermaine, founder of EmpowerAid.

After completing her Hairdressing Certification and Bachelor of Education, she taught hairdressing for private enterprises and TAFE for 31 years. Meanwhile she maintained her certification in training and assessment as well as language, literacy and numeracy.

Jennifer recruits Australian volunteers to the EmpowerAid team. In the last 10 years, Jennifer has developed and implemented sustainable Projects in Bangladesh establishing a Hairdressing and Beauty Training College in Mymensingh. Other projects include East Timor, Halls Creek and Newman.

” I developed quite unusual skill set (over 19 years) which was hair dressing, education, training, assessment, I focused on empowering women and then did some functional literacy and numeracy…I didn’t know what I was producing, I didn’t know where it was going.”- Jennifer Kelley
