Since Catholic Arts was established more than 30 years ago, the performing arts festival event format has continued to evolve. 2021 is particularly special, marking 200 years since the first Catholic school opened in Australia and also 50 years since Catholic schools across the four dioceses came together into the one system.
This year, the re-imagined Catholic Arts Spirit of the Arts Festival will be a week-long performing arts festival seeking to inspire family connection and community participation from all over WA, while showcasing the diverse and exceptional talent of students and the dedication of teachers in Catholic schools, in a new and vibrant celebration of the arts.
In 2020, the Catholic arts program was modified to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, moving the festival online.
The?Spirit of the Arts venue for the final showpiece of Catholic Arts 2021 concert is Perth’s RAC Arena 13 September 2021 and will include a massed choir, flag procession, orchestras, bands, dancers and soloists, providing a platform for all Catholic schools to be part of the?program – live in concert and remotely for schools not able?to participate in person.
This new event will star over 1,500 students from Catholic schools and Colleges across the state, showcasing some of WA’s most inspiring rising stars in a three-hour celebration. A compilation of performances that have received Outstanding Award recommendations and Shield nominations for the Performing Arts Festival will be featured. This will be a truly inclusive and uplifting show.
RAC Arena’s exciting space lends opportunity for increased scope of participation from Catholic school students and accommodates wider attendance than ever before. The new large-scale venue provides scope for diversified displays and interactive performance options.
The massed choir songs that have been chosen include Faith in the Future which has been written to commemorate 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia.
Following extensive reviews of large-scale concerts all over Australia and given the complexities of production, CEWA are working in partnership with the producers of One Big Voice who have significant experience managing similar concerts in the education sector.
The high profile, community-focus Carnevale in Forrest Place and our three-day Carnevale lunchtime concerts in Yagan Square and Forrest Place, are shaping up to be an exciting four days in the City of Perth. The enthusiasm and commitment of our schools to showcase the exceptional gifts and talents of our creative Catholic education community is outstanding.
