On Sunday Australia took on South Africa at Blundstone Arena in Hobart to decide the series with it been tied at 1-1 in a best of 3. Australia captain Aaron Finch won the toss and chose to bowl, Straight away Australia struck early with Mitchell Starc getting the wicket of Quention de Kock for 4 and Marcus Stoinis getting the wicket of Reeza Hendricks for 8, Mitchell Starc picked up another wicket of Aiden Markram for 32 leaving South Africa in trouble 3-55 after 15 overs.

A record partnership of 252 between South Africa’s David Miller 139 from 108 balls and captain Faf du Plessis 125 from 114, the highest partnership ever in an ODI against Australia. Eventually Marcus Stoinis picked up the wicket of du plessis and Josh Hazelwood picked up the wicket of Miller but unfortunately for the Australians it was too little too late with South Africa posting a huge score of 5-320 after 50 overs. Fast bowler Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers for Australia claiming   2-57 off 10 overs.

Chasing 321, a total they’ve achieved just once in their past 16 completed ODI innings, Australia’s run chase got off to a shaky start with South Africa’s Veteran Dale Steyn picking up the wicket of Chris Lynn for a first ball duck. Lungi Ngidi picked up the key wicket of Australia’s Captain Aaron finch for 11 and Kagiso Rabada picking up Travis head for 6, leaving Australia in huge trouble 3-39.

Having come together at 3-39 Marsh and Stoinis showed plenty of fight in an exciting rear-guard partnership of 107 that ensured the Proteas were on edge for most of the run chase. A fighting knock of 106 from Shaun Marsh and Marcus Stonis 63 gave the Aussies a brief hope of an unlikely win, late Contributions from Alex Carey 42 from 41 balls and Glenn Maxwell 35 from 27 wasn’t enough to get Australia home, after their 50 overs Australia were 9-280 falling 40 runs short.

Dale Steyn and Kagiso Rabada were the pick of the bowlers picking up 3-45 and 3-40 respectively. South Africa won by 40 runs, David Miller was named Man of the Match after his brilliant knock of 139, David Miller was also named the player of the series.

For the First time ever Australia will host South Africa in a T20 match which will be played at Metricon Stadium in the Gold Coast.
