Collingwood pluck a win over Eagles

Friday night In front of a crowd of 56,251 at Optus Stadium seen the Grand Final Rematch between West Coast and Collingwood. It was a big game for both clubs, especially the Eagles who would now be very disappointed. They had a chance to go two games clear in the second spot but blew it, while Collingwood was looking for a win to get themselves back on track.

Backs to the wall away from home to the reigning premiers, Collingwood needed to summon something special to overcome West Coast on Friday night and this was certainly special. Collingwood flies back to Melbourne happy 1 point winners 11.12 78 to 12.5 77.

Brody Mihocek was key to the stunning win for Collingwood

Equalling his career-high with 4 goals from 19 disposals and 10 marks.  Influential Collingwood Captain Scott Pendlebury was the difference in the midfield. He had 32 possessions and stepped up when the pies were in trouble with his class. Ensuring the Pies had control out of the middle and around the ground.

Impressive Eagles youngster Jarred Cameron had 13 possessions and kicked 4 goals. While Jack Darling kicked 3 goals but wasn’t enough to get the Eagles over the line. The Eagles weren’t able to continue to get the ball in the forward line to put more pressure on Collingwood’s backline because of sideways kicking. Not good news for the Eagles with Jamie Cripps injuring his adductor late in the first quarter. He’s set for a few weeks on the sidelines which will now open a spot for someone like Jack Petruccelle and Jake Waterman.

West Coast will look to bounce back and has an eight-day break. Before heading to Alice Springs for the first time in its history to play Melbourne next Sunday. While Collingwood will also travel interstate to meet Greater Western Sydney at Giants Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
