All this week Mike has been broadcasting live from Phnom Penh — following the inspirational work of Awareness Cambodia.
Cambodia is a country with a tough past. The genocide carried out by the Khmer Rouge wiped out nearly a quarter of the population, and since then the country has struggled to recover. HIV was, and continues, to be a huge issue and has led to the deaths of many. With this comes many orphans, and children with no place to go but the streets.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of charities like Awareness Cambodia, these children have a chance to go to school, get a job, and get their lives back on track. Early this week Mike met with Gary Hewett, CEO of the charity organisation. Mike and Gary chatted non-stop for nearly half an hour, and in the end there was too much audio to broadcast. But it’s all incredibly moving, and is an amazing insight into the work Awareness Cambodia are doing in the region.
Here is the mostly unedited audio from the interview. In it you will hear amazing stories of human survival, and of hope.
