Unfortunately, suicide impacts many thousands of Australian families every year. Despite many government and mental health initiatives, programs and resources aimed at reducing suicide, people are still taking their own lives.
While it is difficult to identify a good theory explaining why; Focus on the Family believes there’s a strong spiritual and philosophical dimension to this trend. FOTF believes suicide may be due, at least in part, to the secularisation of modern society. Hopelessness, malaise, and de-sensitisation to the value of life are part of the fallout of living in a world without purpose, without meaning, without hope and without God.
It is, for this reason, Focus on the Family Australia have launched a Free Online Suicide Prevention course called Born Survivors Micro Course.
Born Survivors traditionally has been run as in-person facilitator training course, (for which they still provide) but they have now made available most of the content in this online format. This online tool takes approx. 35-45 minutes to complete and aims to give an overview and easy to understand principles surrounding suicide prevention and mental health.
CEO of Focus on the Family, Brett Ryan joins Mike in the studio to share on the new initiative.
