“I’m bored….”

A common phrase a lot of parents will be hearing these school holidays, so Craig Hunter, Deputy Principal at Rehoboth Christian College, joined Mike to suggest some school holiday reading for your kids to enjoy.

Great books recommended for 7-12-year-olds

  1. Diary of a Wimpy Kid series – These are great to get children into reading. Story of a kid facing life at school and home with lots of fun cartoons.
  2. Dave Walliams books like “Ratburger”. His books are fun and action-packed. He has lots of crazy characters and plot twists.
  3. A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket – Story of Baudelare twins and their baby brother who get chased by Count Olaf who tries to steal their parents’ inheritance.

Books with faith-based values to inspire kids

  1. Cooper Family series by Frank Peretti: The door in the Dragon’s throat.
  2. Bill Myers “My Life as a Smashed Burrito” series and Adventures of Wally Mcdoogal
  3. Tim Shoemaker series – great for older kids as it covers difficult topics such as kidnapping and having courage.
  4. Biographies such as William Booth, Bonhoeffer, Hudson Taylor or even Ben Carson.
  5. Chronicles of Narnia series –  including The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. Classics every child should read.
