Uishi kwa muda mrefu mfalme.

Today is a day of blessing because the very first single from The Lion King 2019 soundtrack has dropped! Beyonce’s song Spirit is the first new song we’ve heard from the live-action remake, and not an original from the 1994 animation. The opening lines are sung in Swahili, a language that is widely spoken in East Africa. “Uishi kwa muda mrefu mfalme”  which means ” Long live the King”.

The Lion King 2019 soundtrack was composed by Hans Zimmer. He scored the original soundtrack (and scored a whole heap of awards for it.) Along with a few new additions, Zimmer has put a twist on Can You Feel the Love Tonight, a duet between Beyonce (playing Nala) and Donald Glover/Childish Gambino (playing Simba). It’s safe to say we’ll definitely be losing our minds and shedding happy tears when we hear that one.

Apparently having vocals on two songs for the movie wasn’t enough for the overachiever. So she’s just produced the whole album!

“The Lion King: The Gift,” an album featuring global artists & steeped in the sounds of Africa, produced & curated by Beyonce Knowles-Carter, will release 7/19.@Disneylionking

Now, we could sit here and try and paint you a picture of how Spirit ‘s goosebump-inducing choral vocals, mood-lifting vibes, and key changes will make you feel. But that probably wouldn’t do the track justice, so here it is. Turn it up, sit back and enjoy!

The Lion King 2019 hits cinemas on the 19th of July. (And we may have some tickets to give away soon 😉 )
