If you’re struggling to get out of bed in the morning, feeling drained of energy, unmotivated and anxious you’re not alone.

Given the last few years of having to ‘get on with it’ despite massive disruption, many of us feel like we have an emotional hangover that we can’t shake. With ongoing change imposed on us so quickly, many people have been on autopilot. But now the accumulated stress is taking effect. Channel 9’s Resident Psychologist, Marny Lishman, joined Mike to talk about Pandemic Flux Syndrome. A state of feeling emotionally worn-out and drained as a result of constant stress and pressure from two years into a pandemic, and not knowing what could happen next.

“Usually the start of the year people are feeling energised, they’ve had a bit of a break, and they’re creating their goals. Whereas I think a lot of people have crawled into January and February and they’re almost like there are lots of things I want to do but I don’t think I can do them, I’m just really tired and I don’t feel very productive.”

She suggested flipping your emotions. If you feel unenergetic do an activity that gives you energy like meditation or napping. If you feel disconnected organise a meetup with a friend or family member. Small actions like this help you take steps toward your goals.
