Kirste and Dan reached out to listeners after Dan talked about the recent blackouts in his neighbourhood and how unprepared he is for one. His wife even had to cook dinner wearing a head torch!

So Dan wanted to know if anyone is a ‘blackout prepper” in the hopes of getting some tips or ideas on how he can be more prepared.

“I’ve got a head torch and candles. I recently bought fluro lights so we can turn them on in a blackout” said one texter.

Another listener called in to say “Living in the cyclone belt for 14 years you get used to power going out, we have a torch and gas stove in the shed”.

“We’ve had 8 blackouts in the last 2 years,” read another text. “We fire up the generator and plug in the electronics and water pump. When we have no power we’re completely off the grid.”

After hearing these stories, Dan will probably try to get more prepared for a blackout. Are you a blackout prepper? Let us know by texting or messaging us on social media.
