We all have a favourite teacher who inspired us, made learning fun, or saw potential in us that no one else would.
For author Jamil Jan Kochai, it was his second-grade teacher Mrs Lung. As a young immigrant, he did not know any English. But he learned to read in write in just one year thanks to Mrs Lung, who worked overtime to teach him. He spent years trying to reconnect so he could thank her for all the success he’s had in life. He called school districts, looked up names in Google and social media, and even visited the schoolhouse. After many years, he finally got to thank Mrs Lung, after she surprised him at one of the book readings. Her husband has read an article about Jamil trying to find her.
