AFL – Stkilda vs West Coast Eagles
The Eagles did enough to overcome the test of a battered and bruised Saints outfit to claim a 12.16 88 to 10.10 70 win at Marvel Stadium
The Eagles midfield was prolific – Andrew Gaff led the way with 30 possessions Dom Sheed 28. Classy midfielder Luke Shuey had 27 possessions, 12 contested possessions and 7 clearances. Skipper Shannon Hurn continues his great start to the season had another very good game across half back with 25 possessions, and 9 marks, Brad Sheppard also played a very good game with 18 possessions and 9 marks.
So far this season without Hurn and Sheppard in the backline holding everything together I don’t think the eagles would be 5-3.
West Coast forward line was dangerous – Josh Kennedy and Liam Ryan flew high for a series of pack marks. Kennedy who never had a disposal until 9 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter stepped up when needed and kicked 2 vital goals. In his 150 game Jamie Cripps kicked 2 goals and was able to put pressure on Stkilda defenders all night.
St Kilda heads to the MCG to take on Collingwood next Saturday afternoon, while West Coast returns home to face Melbourne at Optus Stadium on Friday night.
