You know it’s going to be a good day in the office when you walk into the foyer to find a sea of cables and amps.

Adam Hall and the Velvet Playboys have become regulars at the 98five studios and this round, they’re spruiking The Soul Rhythm Spectacular with Richard Jackson (USA) kicking off at The West Australian Spiegeltent on Monday 15th February at 8pm.

But before we talk about the serious stuff, let’s all take a moment to appreciate Adam’s socks and moccasins:

Ok. I feel better now.

Famous for his Velvet Sound and incredible range, Richard Jackson will present the works of his contemporaries such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, James Brown and many other great soul artists.

Adam (lead vocals and trumpet), Mark (guitar and vocals), Matt (drums and vocals) and Pete served us a musical taste tester to the tune of the Isley Brothers’ “Shout” and Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel”. If you missed it, listen here:

The Soul Rhythm Spectacular performances are Jackson’s only Australian shows on his current tour, so this represents a not-to-be-missed opportunity for Perth groovers to hear this one-of-a-kind performer.

Multi award-winning outfit Adam Hall and the Velvet Playboys recently won the BluesNews – Best album of the year (Germany) and the 2014 Fringe World Best Musical performance (Western Australia). Shows featuring the band have been sell outs at previous Fringe World festivals.

Don’t miss it!

Adam studied the craft in America at Berklee College of Music, Boston. Playing since 1990 (from the age of 10), Adam sings and plays Trumpet, Trombone, Alto Sax, Piano, Euphonium, Mellophonium and a little bit of bass and drums for good measure.

Adam played at the Sydney Olympics, was Artist in Residence at Southbridge Jazz Club (Singapore) and has made tours to Singapore, Boston, New York & New Orleans.

In 2005 he formed a classic Rhythm & Blues band, Adam Hall & The Velvet Playboys.

In 2008 The VPs toured with legendary Rhythm and Blues saxophonist Big Jay McNeely, and have performed shows with legends Syl Johnson and Betty Harris.

Adam has also played with James Morrison, Rolf Harris, Frank Foster (the former leader of the Count Basie orchestra who played with Basie for 45 years), Don Burrows, Shirley Horn’s band, Vanessa Amorossi and Grace Knight to name just a few.

Hall met Big Jay McNeely in the USA and the pair not only share a passion for jazz and swing but also a strong friendship.

Hall has played on stage in the States with Big Jay and in 2008 brought him to Australia for their first tour in 2008 with Adam Hall and the Velvet Playboys.

The combination of the 2011 Adam Hall band and Big Jay had New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia rocking’, The 2 then went to Europe in early 2012 and things went even bigger…

Adam recently signed with German record label Timezone Records and is currently touring Europe extensively through Spain, Germany, France and Sweden.
