98five’s Kirste and Morro took the breakfast show to South Lake Primary School for Perth’s number one family station’s final free Free Coffee Friday of the school term.

Students and teachers indulged in free coffee and donuts provided by 98five’s ice cream van man Paul, and the South Lake Primary School Choir belted out a heart-warming rendition of “Colours from the Wind” from Disney’s Pocahontas.

With Kirste and Morro’s well-known rivalry between the Fremantle Dockers and the West Coast Eagles, there was plenty of Derby banter, which the school canteen got involved in, dishing out white and purple, and blue and gold jelly cups to students.

The show caught up with YouthCARE chaplain Toni-Lee Belaart, who championed the school’s rainbows program – a grief and loss program which helps students deal with a loss of a family member or a divorce – and 98five’s roving reporter Christine Wright spoke to school Principal Leigh Liley about the school’s flair for art and even took part in the pre-Derby light-hearted trash talk.

“We have a purpose built arts centre with music facilities and an art room and we have an amazing Picasso cow. The other day it was shrouded in Dockers colours, bar humbug, but I know the Eagles are going to win this weekend!” Mrs Liley said.

“Thank you to all the parents, staff and students that have all come along early today. It’s a glorious morning and you are what create South Lake Primary School.”
